Dr. Mark - you changed my life and I've been telling EVERYONE! I'm 48 years old and have been a light runner for enjoyment and better health for about 15 years. The longest official race I've done is a half-marathon and a full marathon is #1 on my bucket list. In recent years, I'd given up on the hope of ever doing it because I was literally struggling to complete 2 miles. My whole body hurt after running. My muscles just were not happy. I attended one of Dr. Mark's clinics at the City Hospital Wellness Center in Martinsburg. The next day I bought a heart-rate monitor and ran 3 easy miles. I only stopped because I know the risk of overdoing. I could have run another mile easily. No discomfort or fatigue after. I've told so many people about my new running technique and they've called me on the phone and stopped me in the hallway to say how much their own running has improved. I'm a believer! I can't get enough! I'm thinkin' Air Force Marathon 2013. Thank you SO much, Dr. Mark - I'll say it again - you changed my life!

Can anyone give me some advice or drills to help me learn to pick up my feet. I focus on trying to relax my ankles and lift my feet, but my shoes show that I am definitely "toeing off". All help will be appreciated. I know it would be good to do some barefoot running, but after 26 years of orthotics and high heeled running shoes, I am not ready for that yet. I have been orthotic free for 6 months now and I am trying to get down to zero drop shoes for every day activites before I can attempt to run in zero drop shoes.

Thank you!

Following up on the preceding post: Have gotten out twice to run without shoes at a county park with a combination of grass and mulched trails, a little over 6 miles each time. My feet were sore at the same place where the blisters had occurred on a treadmill, but did not blister. It was similar to learning to run in Five Fingers shoes, just another level. I'm confident now of being able to ditch shoes most of the time.

After a 25 year break from running instigated by a stress fracture, this spring an ad for Vibram Five Fingers induced the purchase of a pair. A friend recommended the book "Chi Running" by Danny and Katherine Dreyer, and I spent the summer striving to develop a proper technique per those instructions. That technique is the same as barefoot running, far as I can tell. In the best moments it has been ethereal, body smooth, no impact, just laying feet down and gliding along over them. Got up to 25-30 miles a week using local parks and trails, then overdid it and pulled a calf muscle, and am just now getting back to running. Feels fine with the Five Fingers.

Is there a training method to help progress from five fingers to no shoes? On my treadmill I still get blisters on the balls of my feet after a few miles.

Ironically, Shepherdstown is my home town, although we live in Wisconsin now. I was a mediocre track runner at the high school, but my prize was a lifelong love of running and biking. We have a tree farm on family land along Winebrenner's Road and my wife was in your store recently while I was doing tree work.

Wow, that's amazing! Well, it goes to show there is hope for me. 55 and just started running in minimalist footwear, or any other footwear for that matter.
